James Chittenden is the founder of Triumph Business Communications. Triumph provides clients with a full spectrum of public engagement strategy, planning, and execution. In short, this means using the right strategy, tactics, and tools for clients to engage the right public at the right time.
James has worked with all media from small town newspapers, medium and large market news outlets, media around the world and the world’s leading news organizations. The value of the publicity garnered for clients has amounted to millions of dollars, not to mention the intangible value of brand and reputation enhancement.
He has conducted corporate communications and public relations for a variety of organizations from banks and other for-profit companies, to nonprofits and government clients. Additionally, he spent nearly a decade in business in banking and securities.
James was a U.S. Marine Corps public affairs officer, leading efforts in high-visibility, high-traffic proactive and reactive media relations in war and peace.
Military public affairs cover three areas: external media, internal media, and community relations. James was the public affairs director at Parris Island, SC where he was responsible for public affairs of Marine Corps “boot camp”, and public affairs and marketing for Marine Corps recruiting for half of the United States. At no time while he served in that role did the recruiting service fail to exceed goals. He was in this role at the time of the September 11, 2001 attacks. While in the Fleet Marine Force, he was appointed to a White House press corps detail.
He has served as a spokesperson on countless occasions and helped others to develop their own latent abilities to do so as well, from young recruits to generals to employees and CEOs. He published a base newspaper, and oversaw the base website and improved them both by demanding creativity and high standards of accuracy. He oversaw a robust community relations program and guided the engagement of generals and other senior leaders with influencers, policy makers, and elected officials.
James founded an online incorporation service called Triumph Business Services. Additionally, he authored a book called The Public Triumph: Public Relations for the Strong, and Those Who Want to Be. The book offers methods for entrepreneurs and business owners to gain public relations with an action-oriented “boot camp” approach.
James graduated from Florida State University where he studied history and economics, and earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Boston University. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Defense Information School in Ft. Meade, MD, where he studied journalism and public affairs.
